Answer this week’s QOTW!
Last week, I found myself in a tight spot on my journey to slenderhood. I had just returned from a week long vacation with a few less-than-slender meals, and my twenty-first birthday was only 5 days away. This seemed like the perfect time to try out Rabbit Food For My Bunny Teeth’s Skinny Bunny Cleanse. I liked the idea of a food instead of a liquid cleanse, a practice which has always struck me as a little extreme. Plus, if you’ve been reading The Slender Student, you already know I love egg whites and Greek yogurt. Clearly, I was sold.
I headed to the grocery store the night before to get everything in order. What you see pictured below (plus a few items I already had on hand) got me through about half of the cleanse, but I did need to go back to the store for more Greek yogurt, spinach, and fresh and frozen raspberries. It’s pretty amazing how much you go through when you’re eating the same combination of foods for all three meals!

Oh, another thing, I only did the cleanse for 4 days instead of Catherine’s recommended 5. Like I said, it was crunch time before my twenty-first birthday, meaning I needed an extra day or two for my body to readjust to my normal 1200-1300 calorie a day routine before imbibing excessive amounts of alcohol. Hey, even The Slender Student likes to get down sometimes.
I followed Catherine’s recipes, all of which actually tasted good, an important factor to consider before committing to eating the same meals for several days at a time! I seasoned my egg whites so they weren’t too plain. To my surprise, I didn’t miss the salt at all. In fact, I’ve since stopped salting a lot of foods I make now!

While I was pleasantly surprised by how good these cleansing meals tasted, I’m used to a lot of variety in my daily meals, so I did get a little sick of the spinach/egg whites/raspberry/yogurt mix. But, knowing me, this wasn’t totally unexpected and I think it comes with the territory when you embark on this kind of short term diet. Oh, and I guess this is the part where I should tell you that I did cheat a little… I had one cup of coffee with sugar free coconut milk and a little Truvia every morning. Listen, this Slender Student’s got online classes to study for, and that’s just not happenin’ without a little coffee.
In terms of hunger, the first day was a breeze compared to the starvation I’d been expecting. I think this must’ve been due to what I’d eaten the day before the cleanse, however, because my appetite throughout the following days definitely increased. Fortunately, I’ve developed a pretty strong willpower over the past couple of months, so I stuck through it. If you want to be a Slender Student, a Skinny Bunny, or both, you should too because the results were killer.
I lost 4 pounds in the 4 days I was on the Skinny Bunny Cleanse, which is a pretty big deal considering I was already eating a healthy, low calorie diet that had melted off 10 pounds of abroad weight. I would imagine someone starting from a higher calorie diet would lose even more weight, and as I’ve seen on the comments on RFFMBT, many have! G-g-g-get it, girlz. The cleanse got me over my weight plateau and into an insane birthday dress.
Regarding the aftermath, I knew to expect a little weight to come back on, especially since I was jumping right into birthday festivities (read: Tex-Mex and tequila). So, when I had gained 2 pounds back at the beginning of this week, I wasn’t upset. No one’s ever gotten fat from 2 pounds, and I know once I get back into my slender routine, I’ll be back down again in no time.
Here are my tips in case you find yourself in need of a little cleanse:
- Season your egg whites with dried herbs. I used freeze dried cilantro, garlic, chives, and cracked black pepper.
- To decrease clean up time after making dinner, I just microwaved my egg whites in the Pyrex measuring cup that I’d used to portion them out. Season the eggs, nuke ‘em for 30 seconds, stir them, and heat for 30 more seconds.
- Warm drinks can help to stifle your appetite, so make your green tea hot and drink it between meals.
- If you don’t like the flavor of unsweetened green tea, brew it over fresh mint leaves to add some flavor.
- Keep water on you at all times! Staying hydrated is especially important when you’re consuming so little food and it can also keep you from feeling too hungry.
Thank you to Catherine for coming up with this genius mix. I think I might have to whip the spinach and raspberries back out before returning to school for rush mid-August! Y’all should all be following her blog, it’s incredibly informative and, well, pretty to look at!
