How many of you told yourselves that you’re going to cook more this coming semester? Whether you want to save money or calories, getting in the kitchen guarantees both, but it can be easier said than done. For that reason, today marks the opening of a giveaway for 3 copies of Kitchenability 101, a cookbook designed for college students and other busy people with limited time, space, or money. The coolest part of this book is that author and chef, Nisa Burns, is only 21-years-old, so she knows exactly how to teach you the skills you need to utilize what you’ve got.

And, if you’re lucky enough to be in Austin, join Nisa and I on Wednesday, January 16 at 7:30 at CYC Fitness for a demo of easy, portable breakfasts to fuel you throughout your day. We’ll be giving away samples, tips, and other Kitchenability and CYC goodies! You really don’t want to miss this, so mark your calendars!

  1. I want to up my “kitchenability” because this is my last semester in college and I want to start living a healthier, more cost friendly lifestyle. I have some ability in the kitchen, but sometimes I don’t know where to start so I just resort to unhealthy, precooked options.

  2. I would love to have some healthier recipes, right now the cookbooks on my shelf detail mostly delicious looking baked goods that are waaay unhealthy. I want to up my kitchenability to help me make good for me meals that taste great!

Being in my last semester of college means so many commitments, between senior level classes and tons of activities it is some times difficult to eat healthy when it is faster just to swing by taco bell on my way home from class. Having access to healthy, swift, and easy recipes could really change how I eat.

I would want to up my “kitchenability” because I want to cook different meals so that I don’t get sick of my usual meal and decide to just eat out instead. I also want to get in the habit of cooking so that after graduation in May I will cook dinner even after a long day of work.

It’s your mood, feelings, and thoughts that are all affected by the choices you make, starting with what’s on your plate. We can all choose to eat better and thus live better. I choose to take control of my future and be a healthier and happier person!

  7. I would love a copy of “Kitchenability” because I have found myself in a rut! I eat the same meals every week and when I get bored I start to cheat eat more often. Some inspiration and new recipes would be great! Also I’m interested in the CYC class.

  8. I would LOVE to up my kitchenability because I am only taking 2 classes next semester (lolz) so I have lots of extra time to plan out my meals. I want to learn to cook easy and inexpensive meals because I will most likely be super poor next year after graduation, so I should probably start early. I’m desperate for this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I want to up my “kitchenability” because I have a strong passion for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Being a dance major at UT, it is very important for me to get all the healthy nutrients to increase my energy all day long. This being said, I have many instances where I just had no time to cook anything for dinner! Most cases, I come home starving from all my activities and rampage through the pantry. This semester, I want to prevent all of that! Instead, I want to be more prepared so this will happen less frequently! I am so inspired to be a cooking expert and I feel that this book would truly help me out!!!! I LOVE THIS IDEA!!!!!!

  10. I am looking to up my “kitchenability” because part of my new year’s resolution was to cook healthier, lower calorie meals for my boyfriend and I. We are both trying to be more health conscience and learn enjoy getting fit together. Also, I am in my last year and a half of college… After I graduate I want to be savvy in the kitchen! I am already taking tips from my smart mother, but I am learning to spot deals in the grocery store and cook on a tight budget. HELP!

I get excited about cooking up wholesome meals for my boyfriend or my family, but I never make the time to enjoy simply cooking for myself. Next year I will be heading off to graduate school and will more than likely be living on my own. Instead of wallowing in loneliness and reaching for something easy in my freezer, I want to enjoy preparing meals for myself each day. I want to view my kitchen as a place to share with others, and a place to nourish my body and spirit.

  14. I want to up my kitchenability because as a vegan it’s hard to make healthy choices in the cafeteria and I usually just end up eating pasta. With a cookbook like this I would be more likely to cook for myself and make better choices.

  15. I want to up my kitchenability, which is currently zero, to correspond with my renewed interest in a healthy lifestyle. While I can get myself to the gym almost everyday, I am SERIOUSLY lacking in the nutrition department. I come home from the grocery with bags full of slender supplies but after the gym and long day of walking to and from campus, I settle for cereal or an enticing frozen dish while most of the groceries go to waste. A cookbook may be just what I need to make cooking a less daunting task!!!! I want to prove to myself that I can complete this healthy lifestyle!

  16. I want to up my “kitchenability”because making my own food just feels awesome. There is nothing more satisfying than eating a tasty meal that you prepared for yourself. As a recent college graduate living in a tiny apartment, cooking for myself isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely cheaper and healthier than take out….

  18. I want to up my kitchenability because when it comes to cooking, I am not the best. I cannot cook well so I am opted to try meals that are not as healthy and eat a lot of fast food. I’m taking 19 hours this semester so I will need all of the help I can possibly get with nutritious, quick recipes. Thanks for the giveaway!

  19. I’m getting married on May 5th and starting grad school so I’m not going to have a lot of time in the upcoming months and I really would like to lose weight for the wedding :)

  20. One of my many New Year’s resolutions was to be more health-conscious. Last semester, my uncle sent me a deep-fryer for my dorm and my friends and I had a great time experimenting with it. This semester, I would love to learn some new, healthier recipes and be able to share what I make with my friends!

  21. I want to up my “kitchenability” because I’m a new athlete! I lost over 45 pounds in 2012 by making my own meals and am now a member of the track and field team at my school! Being able to up my kitchenability and be better able to cultivate not only foods that are healthy, but meals that will supplement my performance too, would be fantastic!

  22. I want to include my up my “kitchenability” especially during this first part of the semester because i want to shed a few pounds before spring break. I also really want to just start to be healthier and work on my cooking skills before I go out into the real world next year.
